The Bears gave up 2 late touchdowns against Green Bay, but they clinch a wild card birth with the Rams win over the Cardinals 18-7. This is the teams second playoff birth in three years. The Bears will play New Orleans on the road next weekend, while Green Bay will be on bye next week. Another concerning thing is the loss of Roquan Smith, who left with a shoulder injury.
The Bears got the ball first, and they started at the 40 yard line with Cordarelle Patterson's 200IQ play. They wasted about half the quarter until David Montgomery ran in a 2 yard touchdown. Green Bay's first drive would take them until the end of the first quarter, and they would score to begin the second on Robert Tonyan's 3 yard touchdown pass. The Bears would drive down the field, and Cairo Santos hit a 30 yard field goal. After Chuck Pagano's bad play call, Danny Trevathan would blow coverage on Marquez Valdes-Scantling and the Packers would score a 72 yard touchdown. Then, Cole Kmet would "fumble" and it would be confirmed on the review even though he was down before. Josh Woods, Roquan's replacement, would blow coverage on Dominique Dafney who scored on a 13 yard pass. Santos would kick a 27 yard field goal to end the half. Then, the only 3rd Quarter score would be another Santos kick, a 20 yarder which would make it 21-16. It would also end up being the last score of the game from the Monsters of the Midway. After a long drive that failed on a 4th and 1, the Pack would drive down the field and Aaron Jones would score on a 4 yard run. Mitch would throw a pick the next drive, and Davante Adams would catch a 6 yard touchdown. That would be the last score of the game, with a garbage time drive ending on the one.
The Bears secured their first Wild Card spot in the playoffs since 1994. That team was coached by Dave Wannstedt.
The Bears are in a tough spot. It's win and in for the playoffs, or Arizona lose and in. However, both are looking less likely as the days progress. Green Bay will play their starters in order to get the first round bye, while Arizona will be with Kyler Murray and the Rams with John Wolford. However, we are not here to talk about the Rams V Cardinals. We are here for keys to the game against Green Bay. Also, an in depth look at the future of the Bears will come later today, along with predictions for free agency and the NFL Draft. Let's get started.
1. Get Pressure On Aaron Rodgers
The only way to win the defensive battle is to put pressure on Aaron Rodgers. The Packers just lost Bakhtiari, their star left tackle. That is a weakness we can exploit, and maybe we can get Robert Quinn going. Either way, pressuring him to get the ball out forces interceptions. And he might not be able to get the ball to Davante Adams. Although, that shouldn't be the problem with my next key. But one last thing before we get to that, Aaron Rodgers can make any receiver look good, so we need to make them all look bad by shutting down Rodgers.
2. Have Fuller Cover Adams ALL GAME (and maybe even double cover him)
If Pagano puts Vildor or Shelley on Adams (remember, Jaylon Johnson and Buster Skrine are out with injuries) then he needs to get fired. Now, I'm not saying Vildor (2020 fifth round pick) and Shelley (2019 sixth round pick) are bad, they're not at the level to cover a likely All-Pro this year in Davante Adams, who leads the league in touchdown receptions (17) and has twice as many as the entire Patriots team combined (8). Fuller has been to the Pro Bowl. He has experience and will by far be the best corner in the game. Maybe even try and double cover Adams with Eddie Jackson to slow him down.
3. Hand The Ball To Montgomery 30+ Times
One of the big reasons we've won 3 straight is our run game. It actually all started with the Green Bay game in late November, the first game using our current offensive line combination. It's morphed into our strong spot. For example, let's read some numbers. Montgomery has 66 carries over the past 3 games. He has amounted 4 touchdowns running, and has 354 yards rushing. 146 of those yards, 32 of those carries, and 2 of those touchdowns came against Minnesota. By feeding Monty the ball, we can score more points and maybe squeak out a W.
Next Sunday's playoff implication clash between the Bears and Green Bay Packers has been flexed to 3:25 PM, Central Standard Time. The game is huge for both teams: If Chicago wins, they get into the playoffs. If Green Bay wins, they clinch the #1 seed and home-field advantage, along with the first round bye. Playoffs actually look a little less of a lock for Chi-Town, thanks to the Rams losing to Seattle and Jared Goff breaking his thumb, likely leaving him out of the Arizona game and Blake Bortles being the one who has to lead the Rams to victory. Remember, a Cardinals loss clinches the Bears a spot. And Green Bay likely will not rest their starters. If Chicago wins and Arizona wins, the Rams are actually eliminated from playoff contention.
The Bears finally showed up in the third quarter. The crazy thing is that this wasn't always a dominant performance. In fact, until about 8 seconds left in the first half, it was far from it. But we dominated the rest of the game and moved into the final wild card spot.
On the first drive of the game, the Jags drove down field and scored a 26 yard field goal. The Bears would compile their own drive and score on a Jimmy Graham 5 yard receiving touchdown. The next score would be early in the second quarter, a Cairo Santos 20 yard kick. But it shouldn't have come to that, because of the play on first and goal. They called an end around to Cole Kmet for a loss of five yards. What pissed everyone off was the fact that they were on the half yard line, just pound it in with David Montgomery. The Jags would drive and score on a DJ Chark 20 yard reception. late in the half, the Bears were in the redzone and Joe Schobert would intercept Mitch. But then just 2 plays later, Roquan Smith would pick off Mike Glennon, allowing Cairo Santos to make a late 40 yard field goal.
On the first third quarter drive, Mitch would run a play action pass and keep it himself for a 6 yard score. They would once again score a 6 yard run the next drive, this time with David Montgomery. 2 plays later, Mike Glennon would be picked off by Roquan again, with some help from Danny Trevathan. Two plays later was the THIRD BEARS THIRD QUARTER TOUCHDOWN! It came on a 22 yard pass to Jimmy Graham. The defense forced a punt, and after a long drive, they finished their scoring today with a 3 yard run by Artavis Pierce (Undrafted Free Agent out of Oregon State), the first of his career. After a Jags punt, the Bears put in Nick Foles, who only was there to hand the ball off to David Montgomery. The Jags would score the next drive on a great 34 yard catch by Laviska Shenault, but to be fair it was mainly backups on field by that point. After a few more punts, the Bears kneeled it and won the game.
There is a scenario where the Bears and Cardinals get in. The Bears and Cards have to win next week, and the Rams have to lose this week which would set up Arizona beating them next week and LA being knocked out based on the NFC West rivals division records. it would be harder for the Bears because the Packers likely wouldn't rest their starters next week.
Bears MVP: Jimmy Graham, David Montgomery, Roquan Smith
(Edit 4:19 PM CST: David Montgomery was able to eclipse 1,000 rushing yards this season with a 95 yard performance. Oh yeah and articles are going to be moving to a fourth page due to this one being full now.)
As stated in the previous article, the Bears now control their own destiny. And since this is a weekly series I have to do a Keys To The Game, and there are some interesting keys with the 1-13 Jags being our opponent.
1. Records Mean Nothing
In his press conference on Wednesday, Bilal Nichols stated that records mean nothing. Just because the Jags are 1-13 doesn't mean they haven't had close games. And their only win was to the 10-4 Colts. I'll list all one possession games in order, minus the week 1 game.
1. 3 Point Loss To Titans Week 2
2. 8 Point Loss To Bengals Week 4
3. 2 Point Loss To Texans Week 9
4. 4 Point Loss To Packers Week 10
5. 2 Point Loss To Browns Week 12
6. 3 Point OT Loss To Vikings Week 13
Some of those are some good teams that they barely lost to. Don't take this team for granted. However...
2. Study How The Jags Play In The First Quarter
Remember what the big prize in the draft is, Trevor Lawrence. We don't know what the Jags want to do. The wise choice is to Tank for Trevor, but knowing the Jags they might not. But why would they throw away the #1 pick for a pointless win? The Bears need to study how they play in the first quarter to see what they plan on doing.
3. Keep Doing What's Working
By this I mean listening to Trubisky and getting Robinson and Kmet involved, and keep pounding the ground with Montgomery. Also keep doing what the defense has improved upon. If the Bears follow all of the keys, they will win and all they have to do is win against Green Bay, and they are in.
David Montgomery broke 2 personal records today, carries (32) and rushing yards (146). We also almost lost this game. But me and my lucky socks prevailed, and the Bears won 33-27 over the Minnesota Vikings.
The Bears and Vikes both went three and out to start the game, but Mitch Trubisky found Darnell Mooney early for an 8 yard score. The Vikings responded with an Adam Thielen 3 yard score. Cairo Santos would end first quarter scoring with a 42 yard kick. David Montgomery would begin second quarter scoring with a 1 yard run, followed by a Santos 35 yard field goal. Dan Bailey would hit a 24 yard kick late in the half. The Vikes also got the second half kickoff.
Dalvin Cook would run 1 yard to score on the first second half possession. David Montgomery would run 14 yards for a Bears TD, which would wind up being their last of the game. Dan Bailey would hit a 22 yard kick towards the end of the quarter. And if you missed it, the Bears offense scored a THIRD QUARTER TOUCHDOWN! Anyways, Santos would make a 48 yard field goal, and the Vikes responded by scoring on a 20 yard pass to Tyler Conklin, his first career. Later on, the Bears were on the Minnesota 6 yard line, and Mitch forced a ball for a pick. Despite this, he still had a good game overall. The Vikings got stopped on third and one, and right out of the two minute warning. Brent Urban would chase down Kirk Cousins, forcing him to throw an incompletion and turn the ball over on downs. Santos would hit a 42 yard field goal, and the Vikings final throw gave fans a scare, but Sherrick McManis would be the one to come down with it, sealing the game with a pick. This could eliminate Minnesota from the Playoff race if they lose to New Orleans next week.
The Bears could also clinch a playoff spot next week, if my math is correct. If Arizona looses today to Philly, and San Francisco next week, the Bears just need a win over the 1-13 Jaguars to get in. Again, this is if my math is correct.
Bears MVP: David Montgomery
More Keys To The Game, another set of 3 as well. Today, we are at the Minnesota Vikings, and our defense is without Buster Skrine and Jaylon Johnson, so we need to improvise to win.
1. Shut Down Dalvin Cook
Last time we played the Vikes, we shut Cook down, until Akiem Hicks left the game with a hamstring injury. But he's back, and we need to shut down the Vikings offense to win, and that starts with Cook.
2. Get To Kirk Cousins, Fast
With youngsters Duke Shelley and Kindle Vildor, 2 guys who have little defensive experience, on the field, the Bears need to keep Cousins from throwing. Kyle Fuller will likely be on Adam Thielen, but Justin Jefferson is also out there. Keep the Vikes from explosive plays.
3. Get The Ground Game Going
Let's play the Vikings own game. With the new O-line combo, the run game has been doing really well, especially David Montgomery. Bill Lazor likes to run a run heavy offense, and we must get him and Patterson going to get points.
HM. Continue To Listen To Mitch
When Mitch was renamed the starter, he talked to Lazor and gave him plays that he knows and would like to run. These plays involved Cole Kmet and Allen Robinson a lot. If we had let Mitch run plays he's comfortable with all along, including him running, he might not have been benched and not have been a bust.
Club Dub is back! The Bears went 56 days without a win, until they dominated today with a 36-7 win over the Houston Texans. What's crazy is this was a battle between the "bust" and the "steal." Everyone was expecting the Bears to be dominated and Trubisky to be solidified as the biggest bust in Bears history. But he, and all the players, were out for vengeance. They scored the most points since 2018 against Buffalo. Also, Allen Robinson eclipsed 1,000 receiving yards this season.
The Bears stopped Houston on the first drive. Then, on the first Bears offensive snap, David Montgomery ran 80 yards to the house, the longest Bears run since Neal Anderson ran an 80 yard touchdown in 1988. Montgomery would have a career day, with 155 yards from scrimmage, a career high. The Bears would score early in the second quarter with a Jimmy Graham 5 yard touchdown, ironically the play after Jimmy Graham got called on a false start from Houston's one yard line. Keke Coutee would get the Texans back into the game. Bilal Nichols would sack Deshaun Watson, and then Khalil Mack would sack Watson in the end zone to go up 16-7. This would define the game from then on. Mitch would throw a TD pass to Darnell Mooney, and then with 8 seconds left, he threw the ball to A-Rob, who had 123 yards on 9 catches, for a 30-7 lead going into half.
The Bears would score in the THIRD QUARTER! Granted, it was only a 39 yard Santos field goal. They only got a 32 yard field goal in the fourth, but to be fair, the Bears were chewing clock with Montgomery and Patterson.
I'm kind of undervaluing the defense. Khalil Mack would force a fumble in Q1 that would amount to nothing, and Josh Woods would force a special teams fumble. Not only Mack and Nichols got sacks, Brent Urban had a sack, and Roquan Smith and Mario Edwards Jr had 2 a piece, including Edwards closing the game out with a sack.
Hopefully, the Bears can keep this momentum up next week against Minnesota in a HUGE game with major playoff implications.
Weekly MVP: Everyone
A new series is joining the articles. I hope this becomes as iconic as the Weekly Wednesday Check-In's. Anyways, I have compiled the main keys to the game, typically 3, to beating Houston. These are NOT Bold Predictions, just keys to winning. With that out of the way let's get started.
1. Defense Must Keep Deshaun Watson In The Pocket
Deshaun Watson's best ability is to scramble. The Bears defense needs to put pressure and close the space to run to contain Watson. If he can't run, he has to rely on the pass, and our DBs have good hands. If we contain Watson, we can force takeaways.
2. The Secondary Needs Interceptions
Jaylon Johnson, Eddie Jackson, Sherrick McManis, Kindle Vildor, Duke Shelley, (Roquan Smith and Danny Trevathan, not secondary but ILB) all who I just mentioned have no interceptions. If we contain Watson, the two keys on defense will work. If not, we won't force picks, and we'll lose.
3. Run Mitch, Run!
Now, Mitch needs to use his best ability. Ironically, its the same as Watson's. If Mitch can use a combination of run and pass, he will play well. After all, this is his last chance to prove something for his career, whether its on the Bears or not.
HM. Montgomery Needs A Workload
David Montgomery needs to get 20+ carries today. Last week, when the Bears were late in the game, they stopped running with Montgomery. If we kept running, we might not have fumbled and we would have won.
Blow everything up. I'm serious, it's time to fire everyone. We led the whole game, and then we blew it at the end. I don't care if we win outright, it's time to clean house. I'll go more in depth later about a rebuild scenario, but basically clean house. But I am legally obliged to write an article with a recap of the game.
The game started off with the Bears scoring twice, on a field goal and a touchdown. The extra point on the TD was blocked and it remained 9-0. The Lions would get a TD then doink an extra point. Cordarrelle Patterson would put another Bears touchdown on the board, making it 16-6. The Lions would score on a perfectly placed 49 yard pass to Quintez Cephus. David Montgomery would score on a late run and the Bears would lead 23-13 at half. They would go yet another 3rd quarter without scoring, while the Lions would make it 23-20 on a Jesse James 9 yard touchdown. Cole Kmet would get another touchdown to make it 30-20. Up by ten, Bilal Nichols would get an interception. After a few punts, the Lions would score on a Marvin Jones Jr touchdown. Mitch Trubisky would then get strip sacked inside the ten, and Adrian Peterson would run the ball in from 5 yards out. After driving downfield, David Montgomery would get stopped on a 4th and 1 from the 20 and the Lions would win.
Bears MVP: David Montgomery
Tomorrow afternoon, the Bears will host the Detroit Lions at Soldier Field. They already played them in week one, and that was the comeback 27-23 win at Ford Field. I didn't do these that game, but I did these in the last Soldier Field game, except it was only 3 predictions. Now it's five, and I'm coming up with them as I go.
1. The Bears Will Score 3rd Quarter Points
The Bears have been famous for not scoring in the third quarter this season, with only 14 points in that quarter. The first was against Carolina, and the second was a kickoff return by Cordarrelle Patterson. I think the Bears will score 10 points to help them get further ahead in this game.
2. Offense Will Make 4 Explosive Plays Of 25+ Yards
The Bears offense has been notorious for not being able to create explosive plays. They come as often as Halley's comet. But after Anthony Miller called out the playcalling system, they will for sure go deep multiple times. A-Rob will get at least 2 of these plays.
3. David Montgomery Will Have His Career Long In Rushing Yards
David Montgomery's career best game came against the LA Chargers in Soldier Field last season. But I think Montgomery will beat that 135 yard game and get over 150 yards in rushing. In his week one game, he ran 13 times for 64 yards. But like I said, he'll at least double that mark.
4. Akeim Hicks Will Solidify Himself As The Best Player On The Defense
Akeim Hicks' presence was definitely missed last week, as the Bears had their worst defensive performance since week 16 of 2016. Hicks definitely would have made the team much better. They might have actually had a chance. Instead, they got blown out by their rivals.
5. Mitchell Trubisky Will Save Matt Nagy's Job
This is more of a season bold prediction, but I think Mitch Trubisky will lead the Bears to a 9-7 or 10-6 season and save the job of Matt Nagy, and maybe even Ryan Pace. That record could also bring the Bears a playoff birth, and hopefully a victory. Go beat them Mitch!
This season is lost. I'm going to be honest, I didn't watch anything after the second Mitch Trubisky interception. So forgive me because I'm going to be watching highlights off of my phone for some of this information. The Bears were tarnished 41-25, a surprise because of how good their defense normally is. Not having Akiem Hicks didn't help, though. Anyways, let's get into it.
1st Half
The Packers drove right down the field on their first drive and scored a touchdown off a Davante Adams 12 yard reception. After David Montgomery would run for a career long 57 yards, the Bears would have to settle for a field goal. The Packers would again drive down the field and Marcedes Lewis would catch a 5 yard pass to put Green Bay up 13-3. Oh yeah, Mason Crosby missed the first extra point. Later in the quarter, Allen Lazard would catch a 2 yard touchdown. Then, a blatant facemask no call resulted in Preston Smith returning a fumble on the play for a touchdown. The Bears would finally score an offensive first half touchdown when Allen Robinson caught a 1 yard pass. The Bears would get the ball to start the second half down 27-10.
2nd Half
This is where things get spotty. After 2 punts, Mitch would throw another pick. I didn't watch anymore after that, so I will just read what the stats say. Robert Tonyan would catch a 39 yard pass to put Green Bay up 34-10. Jamal Williams would then score and make it 41-10. The Bears tried to make a 4th quarter comeback again. A-Rob would catch a 6 yard pass, and then on the last Bears possession, David Montgomery would catch a pass, and Darnell Mooney would convert the two points.
Looking at the stats, Mitch wasn't that bad. 26-46 for 242 yards and 3 touchdowns and 2 picks. David Montgomery would also pick up his first 100 yard game of the season, although most of those yards came on that 57 yard run in the first quarter. The Bears are surprisingly favored next week, but they are playing the Lions. I expect Mitch to remain the starter. Get us out of prime time games, we can't win those. Also expect a Mitch Trubisky player profile tomorrow.
Bears MVP: David Montgomery/Allen Robinson
First of all, even though he hasn't been good, my thoughts and prayers go out to Nick Foles. His injury looked terrible. But even still, the Bears couldn't do anything on offense. The run game was solid, special teams looked good, and the defense played well, but other then that, nope. Terrible.
The game started out with the Bears forcing a fumble. Then, Nick Foles overthrew Anthony Miller and Harrison Smith picked it off (I almost called this play exactly). The Vikings would later cap it off with an Adam Thielen one handed 17 yard touchdown. The Bears would respond with a 23 yard field goal. Then, after a couple of punts, Khalil Mack would get his first interception since week one of 2018. Cairo Santos would hit a 42 yard field goal and the half would end.
The Bears got the ball to start the second half. But the offense didn't even get a chance to play. Cordarrelle Patterson took the kickoff 104 yards to the house against his former side. The Vikings would then hit a 37 yard field goal, and the dreaded 43 yard field goal to tie the game. Adam Thielen would catch his second touchdown of the game, a 6 yard pass. A muffed snap would put this game at 19-13. The Bears punted, then turned the ball over on downs. On their last chance, Nick Foles would be carted off with a scary injury, thrusting 3rd stringer Tyler Bray into the game. He did next to nothing as the Bears turned it over on downs and the game ended.
Bears MVP: Cordarrelle Patterson
Let's check on my bold predictions.
1. Bears Defense Will Shut Down Dalvin Cook
Depends on who you ask, but yes they did.
2. Bill Lazor, Along With The Vikings 29th Ranked Defense, Will Spark This Offense
No offensive touchdowns. No ball movement. Definitely wrong.
3. Lamar Miller Will Run For 100+ Yards
He made some catches but I don't think he even ran the ball once this game.
Well, that was terrible. We know that Mitch is probably the starter against Green Bay in two weeks. The Bears go on bye next week, and will probably come out of the bye and go 5-6.
As the Bear Raid sounds, I am going to do something I haven't done since week 3, and that is make bold predictions for tonight's game. Let's go.
1. Bears Defense Will Shut Down Dalvin Cook
From one good back to another, the defense did great against Derrick Henry, and I think they will do the same with Cook. Dalvin Cook is the reason the Vikings are 3-5 and not 1-7. If we shut him down, we will win, and I think with Khalil Mack, Akiem Hicks, and the other "Underappreciated Bears Players" which you should go check out from last Thursday, we will in fact shut down Dalvin Cook.
2. Bill Lazor, Along With The Vikings 29th Ranked Defense, Will Spark This Offense
While I don't see a monster game for the offense, I think they will have a solid game. Nick Foles might be more comfortable, especially with the Vikings without their top 3 corners. The receivers will do good, and I think Darnell Mooney could get his first 100 yard game. The Bears will win if their offense does good.
3. Lamar Miller Will Run For 100+ Yards
Miller is making his Bears debut, along with him playing in his first game since the 2018 Pro Bowl. With Cody Whitehair back, Miller should hopefully find holes in the defense and get free. Miller better get another 97 yard run tonight, especially with no competition for him since David Montgomery is out. Miller will solidify his spot on the active roster.
One more prediction: Bears win 23-20!
Today was a bad game. So I'm going to do something I haven't done since week 1, that is compile five takeaways from the Bears game. Let's not waste anymore time and get into it.
1. Time For Nagy To Hand Over Playcalling Duties
Yes, it is 100% time for coach Nagy to hand over the playcalling duties to offensive coordinator Bill Lazor. The plays he calls are terrible. A draw play on 2nd and 16? A screen on 3rd down in Titan territory that is fumbled and brought back for a touchdown? Yeah, give Lazor a chance. At this point, we could go 5-11 if this playcalling continues.
2. Charles Leno Needs To Go
Terrible. Just terrible. Leno allows defenders to blow right past him, allowing Nick Foles to be sacked within 2 seconds. Not to mention all the penalties he has against him. They really missed out at the trade deadline. But speaking of Nick Foles.
3. Mitch Needs To Come Back In When Hes Healthy
Yes Mitch needs to come back. Nick Foles is unathletic and can't run for his life. Mitch at least has the athleticism that quarterbacks basically need nowadays. Remember, Mitch is injured but will be back soon. Not to mention, Mitch got benched after one bad pick he threw. Nick Foles? At least 40 bad throws in 6 games.
4. Defense Did Good Stopping Derrick Henry
The one bright spot today. The defense held Henry to his second worst game on the ground. But when you think about it, his "worst" game was less yards but more touchdowns. Only one explosive play from Henry, but he was held to just over 2 yards a carry outside of that. The pass defense did decent, even on the AJ Brown touchdown. But speaking of the run game.
5. Time To Call Up Lamar Miller
Definitely time. Miller is sitting on the practice squad when he should be on the active roster. A pro bowler in 2018, I'm surprised he isn't playing. He hasn't played in a game that wasn't preseason since that pro bowl. The run game cannot get going. Not to mention the fact that David Montgomery could be out with a concussion. Time to bring Miller up to the active roster.
Dick Stockton kept saying that the Bears had a makeshift o-line at least 30 times. But you can't blame him. When your line is a bunch of backups then you're going to get that kind of statement. As a matter of fact, check out the o-line.
LT Charles Leno Jr, LG Arlington Hambright, C Alex Bars, RG Germain Ifedi, RT Rashaad Coward
Hambright was making his first appearance in the NFL today. Oh yeah, the actual game. The first three quarters were garbage. If Mitch Trubisky was healthy, I guarantee he would have come into the game. But just how bad was Nick Foles? (and Matt Nagy's playcalling) Let's find out.
The Titans got a slow starting game off the ground with a Stephen Gostkowski 40 yard field goal. After a long drive, Ryan Tannehill threw a perfect ball to AJ Brown that was caught for a 40 yard touchdown. The Bears just couldn't get anything going. When they finally looked like they could get points on a third down, David Montgomery would fumble the football that new Tennessee Titan Desmond King would return 63 yards for a touchdown.
The fourth quarter would begin with the Bears getting points on a Cairo Santos 22 yard field goal. The Titans decided not to run clock and ended up getting Jonnu Smith a 2 yard touchdown. Ryan Nall would get his first career touchdown on a 6 yard reception. Anthony Miller fumbled on a drive that could have put them one score down. Instead, they lost all timeouts and when Jimmy Graham caught an 8 yard TD with a minute and four seconds left, it was already too little too late. Chicago drops to 5-4 while Tennessee moves to 6-2.
Honestly, I would not be surprised if Trubisky starts the next game he is healthy. Takeaways will come later today. Another article is in the works as well. Maybe my dad will agree to a podcast as well.
Well, the Bears couldn't complete the 4th quarter comeback today. A nailbiting game unfortunately goes to the opposition. But who knows what would've happened if the Saints were at full strength. The Bears have a few positions that should be addressed at the trade deadline after watching this game.
The game started with a Will Lutz 38 yard field goal. The Bears answered with a 44 yard field goal on a drive that saw Mitch Trubisky come into the game. Then Will Lutz somehow missed a 27 yard chip shot field goal. Then, Nick Foles completed a 50 yard bomb to Darnell Mooney, and the drive finished with Allen Robinson making a diving catch for a touchdown. After a few punts, Cairo Santos put through a 29 yard chip shot. The Saints got a late touchdown to end the half.
The Bears played garbage until late in the fourth. Lutz hit 2 field goals, 27 and 39 yarders. Then, Taysom Hill would get a 20 yard touchdown reception. The Bears played garbage on offense, with points when I thought Matt Nagy would put Mitch Trubisky into the game. Late in the game, Darnell Mooney would catch a 3 yard touchdown, and after a stop, some "forward progress down" luck, and a Santos 51 yard field goal, the game would go to overtime. The Bears would make a stop, and then Nick Foles played horrible, and Will Lutz would end the game with a 35 yard field goal.
Trade Deadline Needs
Offensive Line
Thats about it. We are without 3 of our starting o-lineman. Sam Mustipher looked pretty good, and so did Jason Spriggs. Ryan Pace should try and find a trade for someone on a lower position team.
Oh yeah, Javon Wims is probably done in a Bears uniform. Either he'll be suspended, cut, or traded. I'm not having that kind of culture in my locker room if I'm Nagy
Happy Halloween Everyone!
Injury news is out for tomorrow's game between the Bears and Saints. Michael Thomas, who last played week 1, did not travel to Chicago and has been ruled out of Sunday's contest. Receiver Marquez Callaway has also been ruled out, along with guard Nick Eason. Emmanuel Sanders remains on the reserve/COVID list, meaning the Saints are without their top 3 receivers Sunday. The Bears have ruled out Cody Whitehair. Allen Robinson, who hasn't practiced all week an was listed as doubtful, will play after clearing concussion protocol. Here is the full injury report:
Saints:
Out- WR Michael Thomas (ankle/hamstring), WR Marquez Callaway (ankle), G Nick Eason (concussion)
Bears:
Out- C Cody Whitehair (calf)
Questionable- LB Khalil Mack (ankle), S Eddie Jackson (knee), S Sherrick McManis (hamstring), Cordarrelle Patterson (quad)
Mock Draft 2.0 comes out soon. It is taking me a while to get through. The standings relate to last Monday before the Bears-Rams game, which is why the Bears are picking 29th.
The Bears looked terrible out there last night. I mean terrible. Especially on the offensive side. In a game I expected them to win they did anything but that, losing 24-10 to a team that could also be considered frauds. How exactly did this happen?
The first quarter started out slow. Late in the quarter, Jared Goff would find Josh Reynolds for a 4 yard score. Cairo Santos would kick a 42 yard field goal to put it back to a 4 point game. Sam Sloman, a rookie kicker for the Rams, would hit a 22 yard score to make it a touchdown game. Malcolm Brown would keep the Rams momentum going with a one yard run. Gerald Everett would later put the game away with a 12 yard score.
The only positive came later in the game. Robert Quinn would strip the ball, and Eddie Jackson would take it in for an 8 yard fumble return. Foles would be picked off the next drive, and that all but sealed the game.
This game clearly exposed the Bears as true pretenders. The only way they gain respect is if they beat the Saints next weekend. The game is at 3:25 CST at Soldier Field.
The Bears came into Carolina as 2 point underdogs, but ended up winning by 7. Deandre Houston-Carson, the man who got the game ending breakup against Tampa last week, got the game sealing interception on Teddy Bridgewater late in the 4th. The Bears have been the comeback kings all year, but they almost blew a 17 point lead. But how did the scoring come?
The Panthers got the first drive. After Bridgewater almost got sacked for a safety, he threw an interception to Tashaun Gipson, which ended up resulting in Cole Kmet's first NFL touchdown reception. Joey Slye of Carolina would hit a chip shot 21 yard field goal. The next quarter would be only field goals, Cairo Santos hitting a 31 yarder, Joey Slye a 20 yard chip, and Santos hitting his career long, a 55 yard field goal, to end the half.
There was almost back-back-back turnovers a point in the third. Mike Davis would fumble, Nick Foles would get picked off, and Eddie Jackson had his second pick six called back by a bad pass interference call. The Panthers missed a field goal that drive. The next drive the Bears would finally get a 3rd quarter score, Foles scoring on a QB sneak from the one. Mike Davis would also score a one yard run the next quarter. Santos would hit another 31 yard field goal, then Joey Slye hits a 48 yarder. Then nothing happened until the aforementioned Houston-Carson pick six.
The Bears moved to 5-1 on the year, the first time since 2012. They travel to brand new SoFi Stadium next week to take on the Rams on Monday Night Football.
