Marquee needed something to keep their network running during the Cubs off season. So they have come to an agreement with the Bears to air a show called "Bear Essentials" hosted by Cole Wright. Wright moved to Marquee from NFL Network, and will be joined by Bears analysts and their very own personnel to break down the week in Bears and look ahead to their next match up. The show will first air tomorrow at 7 PM following "The Stadium" and will be followed by a rerun of the Bears-Buccaneers game, which will be a two hour directors cut. The show will normally air every Tuesday, and will always be followed by a rerun of the previous weeks regular season match up.
The Bears called Wrigley Field home from 1921 to 1970, and now they will return to Wrigleyville on Marquee Sports Network.
After being unable to find a viable trade partner, the Jets decided to part ways with 2 time all pro running back Le'Veon Bell. After a contract dispute with the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2018, Bell packed his bags and moved to New York. He could never find his footing, likely due to him being out a year. But should the Bears pursue Bell?
Why They Should:
The Bears have been horrid running since the loss of Tarik Cohen. David Montgomery can't do it himself, and Cordarrelle Patterson isn't going to cut it. Bell could be that perfect guy to help Chicago get back going in the run game after back to back horrible performances on the ground.
Why They Shouldn't:
The Bears don't have a lot of money to spend on players. Allen Robinson isn't going to pay himself. Bell will take up a lot of money that the Bears don't have, unless they only sign him for one year when Bell will want longer.
Bell could be either really good or really bad if the Bears sign him. We have to wait and see.
Who would've thought we'd see the day. Yes, the Bears are atop the NFC, and third place in the whole NFL. This comes after Seattle lost to Arizona last night. The reason the Bears are atop is due to conference record. Their only loss was out of conference, while the Seahawks loss came in conference. That could all change though tonight when the Bears take on the Rams in just under and hour. I think the Bears will win tonight, just saying.
The Bears suffered another blow to the lineman core, this time on the defense. Roy Robertson-Harris is set to undergo shoulder surgery, which will keep him out for the rest of the season. This is a crucial blow to the team, as Robertson-Harris has been one of the best reserves on the Bears over the last few seasons. Robertson-Harris was inactive against the Titans, meaning this injury was likely suffered against the New Orleans Saints.
The Bears play the Minnesota Vikings on Monday Night Football next week at Soldier Field.
Bears Head Coach Matt Nagy is giving up play calling duties to offensive coordinator Bill Lazor for the upcoming game against Minnesota. This move is not a permanent change, rather, it is a test move to see if it should be permanent.
Plenty of people have called for Nagy to hand over play calling duties to Lazor after all the bad plays he has called. This change will not affect defensive play calls, as Chuck Pagano will continue to handle that.
The Bears are working out a quarterback taken in the 2017 NFL Draft. That is the fourth QB that was taken, DeShone Kizer. Kizer was widely regarded as a first round talent, but was taken in the second round by the Cleveland Browns. He was the starting quarterback for nearly the entirety of the Browns 0-16 season, and is regarded as a bust. But in fairness, he never really got another chance.
Kizer moved to Green Bay and played in week 1 against the Bears after Aaron Rodgers was injured. Poor guy got stripped and pick sixed by Khalil Mack. Then, Rodgers came back and we all know what happened. Kizer then moved to the Raiders, but didn’t get a chance with Derek Carr being the starter. He has not been on an NFL roster since.
Kizer is 0-15 in his career. He has thrown for 3,081 yards, 11 touchdowns, 24 picks, and has a completion percentage of 53.1%
The Bears have dealt with QB injuries. Nick Foles a hip pointer, and Mitch Trubisky a shoulder injury. If they both aren’t available coming out of the bye, I don’t think Matt Nagy would turn to Tyler Bray. It might be time for DeShone Kizer to get his last chance in the NFL, and it could just come against one of his former teams.
The Bears have placed punt return specialist Dwayne Harris on the Injured Reserve. Harris suffered a torn triceps muscle last Monday against the Vikings.
Harris spent time in Dallas, New York, and Oakland before landing in Chicago. He has returned 190 kicks for 1,906 yards and 4 touchdowns in his career. He averages 10 yards per return.
In other news, the Bears have claimed DeAndre Carter off of waivers to be their new return man. Harris is eligible to return against the Houston Texans on December 13th.
Chicago Bears starting S Eddie Jackson has been placed on the reserve/COVID list. While Jackson is on the list now, he could be cleared to play for Sunday Nights Game against Green Bay due to the NFL's five day quarantine rules, such as when Germain Ifedi was on the list earlier in the season and still played the same weekend against Tennessee (Ifedi was also placed on the list that Monday). If Jackson does not play, this would be a huge blow to an already injury/COVID riddled roster. Jackson has 58 tackles, a tackle for loss, and a fumble recovery for a touchdown. He also has two picks that were negated by bad calls, both were for touchdowns.
Another thing to note is that the Bears still have yet to make a decision on QB, with Mitchell Trubisky emerging as the likely favorite to start against the Packers.
3 key Bears injury news have come out today on the offense. Mitchell Trubisky was a full participant in practice today, while Nick Foles did not practice. All signs are now pointing towards Mitch being the Week 12 starter Sunday Night at Green Bay. Meanwhile, David Montgomery confirmed that he has cleared concussion protocol and is, "good to go" for Sunday.
Thank you for all of those who tuned into the first live stream on the site, and those of you who watched it after. See you next Wednesday.
When Eddie Jackson was placed on the COVID list, I got straight to writing the article. It was the first time I had ever done an article where I did not finish it before publishing the first version. All it said was, "Eddie Jackson has been placed on the COVID/reserve list." That was it. Well today, he was activated from the list. This time, I did finish the article before publishing it.
Mitchell Trubisky was also named the Week 12 starter. This came as no surprise, as Nick Foles had not practiced all week. It was "confirmed" but not officially named on Wednesday. Matt Nagy said it wouldn't be "fair" to Nick Foles to name Mitch the starter. But today, he officially did. Trubisky is one of only 2 quarterbacks with a 100% win ratio, with Big Ben being the other.
Akiem Hicks (hamstring) and Charles Leno Jr (toe) will be gametime decisions. Unrelated to our team, the Ravens-Steelers game might be cancelled, as a report said that there is "no way" the game can be played. Why does this matter? If the game gets cancelled, we would likely see the NFL add an 8th seed to the playoffs. And who is the eighth seed in the NFC? None other then our Chicago Bears. (Update: Just 10 minutes after releasing this article the game was moved to Tuesday)
Allen Robinson and Darnell Mooney are expected to play today against the Lions. The two were questionable all week with knee injuries, but Mitch Trubisky will have more people to throw to, as if they were out then Anthony Miller would get most of the targets.
The game will kick off at 12 PM CST at Soldier Field.
Bears nickel cornerback Buster Skrine is out Sunday against Houston with a concussion. Many Bears fans want Skrine gone after this season, with the cap he takes up and his poor performances recently. With him out, expect to see a lot of rookie Kindle Vildor and 3rd year man Duke Shelley, with Vildor likely getting the starting nickel job.
Khalil Mack did not practice either today with a shoulder injury. He is questionable for Sunday. OLB James Vaughters is also out for the second straight week with a knee injury. Expect to see more of rookie Trevis Gipson on Sunday again. Lastly, Darnell Mooney has missed practice all week due to personal reasons. Coach Nagy thinks Mooney will be able to play on Sunday.
Multiple Bears players were in this weeks Pro Football Focus 90 club. Last week, Bilal Nichols became the first Bears player since week 3 to be graded with a 90+ by Pro Football Focus. This week, there are 3 Bears players in the club. C Cody Whitehair is the highest of the 3, and second highest overall, coming in with a 92.9 grade. OLB Khalil Mack, who was the player in week 3 to get a 90+ grade, was the second highest Bear, coming in with a 92.7 grade. Allen Robinson, who cracked the 1,000 yard mark last week, was also in the club, coming in with a rating of 91.7.
Stats:
Cody Whitehair: (None Available)
Khalil Mack: 2 tackles, 1 sack (went for a safety), 1 TFL, 1 PD, 1 FF, 1 FR
Allen Robinson: 9 REC, 123 yards, 1 TD
Khalil Mack and Cordarrelle Patterson have been selected to the virtual Pro Bowl this year, and A-Rob and Roquan have been snubbed. Now, I can see why A-Rob wouldn't get in, but Roquan? He leads the NFC in solo tackles, is tied for 4th in total tackles, and is ranked as the 1st MLB, and yet people still chose Fred Warner? The 30th ranked MLB in the league and is tied for 23rd place in total tackles? He also only has 5 tackles for loss (which is TFL in the Player Profiles that I hope everyone reads) and no sacks, which compares to Roquan's 17 TFL and 4 sacks. The fan vote is rigged, and more players needed to be added. This is almost as bad as the College Football Playoff (sorry Notre Dame fans, but A&M or Cincinnati should've gotten in over you). Also, I haven't even gotten to A-Rob. He ranks 9th in receiving yards, with 1,110. Keep in mind that most of those were with Nick Foles. Now, DeAndre Hopkins, DK Metcalf, DaVante Adams, and Justin Jefferson all got in over him, which makes sense because they have more yards then him. But they should've had more players, especially since it's being played on Madden. But anyways, congrats to Mack and Patterson for being selected.
Also, Patterson luckily avoided a serious knee injury on Sunday, and is on track to play against Jacksonville on Sunday.
With the Arizona Cardinals 20-12 loss to the San Francisco 49ers, the Bears now control their own destiny. If they win out, they are in the postseason, regardless of what happens in the Arizona-Rams game. This will be the only path for the Bears with the Buccaneers 47-7 win over Detroit today. We also learned today that George Kittle grew up a Bears fan.
Mitchell Trubisky has been awarded as the Chicago Bears 2020 Media Good Guy Award Winner. If you're wondering what this award is, it was started in 2013 and the winner is voted on by the Chicago chapter of the Pro Football Writers of America. The award signifies the player that is most cooperative with the media. We all know what happened earlier in the season, Mitch got benched in Week 3 but came back in Week 12. During that span, Mitch kept working and was professional with the media. I don't normally use quotes on this site, but I'll take a small transcript from a tweet by The Athletics' Kevin Fishbain to highlight what was likely the main reason that he won the award. "The fact that he volunteered to do a post-game Zoom after getting benched in Week 3 was worthy of the award in itself."
The past winners of the award were A-Rob (2019, happens to be the runner up this year, and Trubisky was the runner up last year), Prince Amukamara (2018), Zach Miller (2017), Tracy Porter (2016), Matt Slauson (2015), Ryan Mundy (2014), and Josh McCown (2013).
Trubisky was one of two Bears players to win a "Media" award today. The other was running back David Montgomery, who won the Fantasy Comeback Player of the Year Award. This award is handed out by Pro Football Focus, also known as the site with all the NFL stats you could ask for.
HAPPY NEW YEAR! We have made it out of this awful year and can now celebrate with an article. Anyways, huge news came out of Green Bay. Specifically, a major injury. Unfortunately, it was not to Rodgers or Adams. However, it was to another offensive star, David Bakhtiari, Green Bay's best offensive lineman. The injury is believed to be a season-ending Torn ACL. In other news up north, the Packers have claimed Damon "Snacks" Harrison off waivers and he is expected to start against the Bears on Sunday. Once again, Happy New Year everyone.
The Chicago Bears are expected to retain head coach Matt Nagy for the 2021-22 NFL Season.
Nagy is 28-19 over three seasons with the team, and has lead them to one playoff appearance in 2018 and has a chance to get a second today at 3:25 CST. Remember that not too long ago everyone wanted to blow the team up. But he was able to hold the team together and win over the locker room despite loosing six games in a row.
It has also been reported that Nagy has become more involved in the play-calling over the past few weeks. The Bears-Packers Playoff Implicating clash will air at 3:25 PM CST on FOX.
3 Chicago Bears players have made the 2020 All-Pro teams. 2 were on the second team, and one on the first team. The player on the first team is kick returner Cordarrelle Patterson. The second team players are OLB Khalil Mack and ILB Roquan Smith. Personally, I think Smith should have gotten the first team spot over Fred Warner, but at least he is a second team player. Allen Robinson was left off the list, but I can understand this a little more than the Pro Bowl. David Montgomery was left off as well, but he only surged in the later portion of the season, a reason why he wasn't a Pro Bowler. I think he is due for a monster season next year.
I am working my way through Mock Draft 4.0. The players are all set.
The Bears have finally hired their next defensive coordinator. Safeties coach Sean Desai has been promoted within. He was one of two candidates interviewed for the DC position. The other, Former Defensive Line Coach Jay Rodgers, has moved on to Los Angeles to become part of former Bears Outside Linebackers Coach Brandon Staley's staff on the Chargers.
Next season will be Desai's ninth as a member of the Bears staff. He served his first 6 years in a quality control role before being promoted to safeties coach in 2019. He's had that role the last two seasons. Former Bear Sam Acho took to Twitter on January 18th to plea for the team to promote Desai, stating that he helped Vic Fangio craft the defense to greatness for 4 years. If that's the case, then maybe he can return this D to it's 2018 form and lead us back to the postseason.
Acho also called Desai a "Spitting image of Brandon Staley" who was already mentioned to have gotten a head coaching job with the Chargers.
